Flowering Onions are close cousins to edible onions, but grown in the garden for their showy globe-shaped blossoms. This species is native to southern Europe and puts on a long-lasting display of soft lavender flower heads in mid-summer. Plants form a compact mound of bright green, grassy leaves, and are best used towards the front of the border, for edging, or in mixed containers. Attractive to butterflies. Especially nice when combined with Lady’s Mantle. Easily divided in early spring. Good for cutting.
