Agave virginica ‘Spot’

A remarkable introduction from Cistus Nursery in Oregon, this Aloe is one of the hardiest forms, though it demands excellent drainage particularly in regions with wet winters. It forms a mound of leathery-looking grey-green leaves that are spotted with beet-red markings after the second year. Fragrant creamy-white flowers are held aloft on tall stems during the summer. Heat and humidity tolerant. Dies completely back to the ground in winter. Superb and bizarre, a nice specimen plant for containers, in the rock garden or well-drained border. Also goes under the name Manfreda virginica ‘Spot'. Native across much of the Southern USA.
