Helleborus × hybridus ‘Anna’s Red’

Lenten Rose

USDA Zone: 5-9

Plant number: 1.255.540

The Lenten Rose is an easy spring blooming perennial for the shady woodland garden. Plants produce bushy clumps of thick, leathery evergreen leaves. Flower stalks appear in early spring, bearing showy cup-shaped blooms. This strain features single blooms in deep burgundy-red on red stems. The leaves are marbled and have a pink tinge to the marbling as they emerge. Site these where they will stay for many years, since the plants resent being disturbed. Trim the old leaves to the ground in late winter before the buds emerge, to allow the flowers maximum impact. Bred by Rodney Davey and named after plantswoman Anna Pavord. It took twelve years to achieve the goal of breeding a red hellebore with marbled leaves. USPP#24720: unlicensed propagation prohibited. CAUTION: Harmful if eaten/Skin irritant.
