Phlox douglasii ‘Lilac Cloud’

There are many selections of Moss Phlox, all of them forming a low mound or cushion of evergreen needle-like leaves, smothered by tiny flowers in late spring. This is a very compact variety bearing starry soft lilac-mauve flowers, each with a tiny rose eye. Do not prune in fall or spring, but clip lightly immediately after blooming if plants become straggly. Wonderful in the sunny rock garden, for edging, or in alpine troughs and other containers. Clumps may be ripped apart and divided in early fall or right after blooming, after 3 to 4 years. Requires good drainage. A Western North American native plant.
